Stalin calls on Panneerselvam

chennai: newly-elected mayor of chennai city corporation m.k. stalin on saturday called on tamil nadu chief minister o. panneerselvam at the latter's residence here. described as a courtesy call, this is the first time that a top level dmk leader is meeting a leader of the opposite camp in his official capacity. stalin, who was re-elected for the second time to the civic body in the recent civic elections, was accompanied by madurai mayor c.ramachandran. stalin never called on jayalalithaa after she assumed office as chief minister in may last. she had remarked in the assembly recently that stalin did not even bother to extend a courtesy call on her after she became the chief minister. speaking to newsmen, stalin said chief minister panneerselvam had assured him that he would look into the demands, if any, of the civic body. pending projects would be implemented by the civic body after obtaining permission from the government, stalin added. madurai mayor n. ramachandran accompanied stalin while calling on the cm. on the question of election for deputy-mayor in madurai municipal corporation council, ramachandran said there would be no problem in getting the dmk candidate elected to the post as the cpm was also supporting the dmk there. meanwhile, union minister and bjp leader pon radhakrishnan called on dmk president m karunanidhi at anna arivalayam and submitted a list of bjp candidates for the post of deputy-chairmen in the indirect elections to municipalties and other local bodies, to be held on october 31.
